How wonderful it has been to pick up my camera again and restart family photoshoots under the shadow of Covid-19. After missing out on the delights of springtime, I’ve been making the most of this summer’s gorgeous wildflower meadows and I am already planning for an autumn full of magnificent colour. I can’t wait!
While everyone is adjusting to a new way of going about our work and daily lives, I feel very fortunate that outdoor photography is tailor made for social distancing. Staying a couple of metres apart isn’t a problem because I always like to use a long lens in the great outdoors, giving families and children space to play and run, which often creates the most magical candid images.
All the images in this blog are from shoots I carried out in June or July 2020 within the context of Covid-19 and social distancing.
I'm really enjoying my socially distanced outdoor photoshoots. They are great fun, very relaxed and have captured some lovely family moments - in fact there’s very little difference to how I worked before.
Most things about my shoots remain the same as before but I’ll be greeting you with a smile rather than a handshake, and I won’t be coming close to rearrange hair or straighten your clothes. I’ll also make sure that there is no potential overlap between clients, and that any props we might use are thoroughly cleaned or quarantined for 72 hours.
A definite silver lining of the lockdown period for my family has been the time spent exploring locally, either on foot or by bike. We have found many a great footpath that was previously unknown to us, areas of woodland we didn’t know were on our doorstep, and we have rediscovered old haunts that we took the boys to when they were little. So I now have an extended list of great nearby locations as well as all my old favourites for you to choose from.
Covid-19 has focussed our attention on the things that really matter - family, friends, being together. Hand holding, a great big Grandma cuddle, or sitting next to someone who’s not in your immediate family is not something we now take for granted. Let me help you capture the magic between you and your most precious. I will guide you through the process of getting the photographs on your walls, around your house for you to enjoy. I promise it will make you smile every day.
And now that the hairdressers are back open (yey!), there’s nothing to stop you booking in for that shoot you’ve always wanted to do but never quite gotten round to.
If you’re considering a relaxed and natural family portrait session with me, have a look here for more information, or fill out the enquiry form and we can start chatting.
"Andrea made us feel totally comfortable and safe during the shoot. We really appreciated how conscious she was of not coming too close to us and how she asked me to adjust my daughters' hair or positions. Andrea was really enthusiastic throughout and this really brought out the best in my girls and resulted in some amazing pictures.” Rachel, June 2020.
