Christmas family photoshoots in my Leeds photography are always popular! It's great to capture some of the fun of the festive season, and share it in photographs with your friends and family.
In this blog today, I'm sharing some advice and inspiration about what you need to think about before you come along. A big consideration is what to wear for these Christmas sessions. Keep reading for my top tips!
First though, here’s some more information about my festive minis.
My all-new Christmas family photoshoot experience is a mini, pared-back version of my normal family portrait sessions, with a festive twist. Mini in name and price! At just £110, they are incredible value!
Each session is 20 minutes long, which gives us time to capture a few different beautiful Christmas set ups, and also allows for a change outfits if you wish.
You're welcome to wear two different sets of clothes in your Christmas portraits. For example, you may wish to come to the photoshoot wearing a festive jumper and then change into party wear half-way through. Children who have festive pyjamas are also welcome to bring those to change into.
These portrait sessions are a great way to celebrate the festive season, with no tinsel or Father Christmas outfits in sight! Think classic, stylish timeless portraits with a minimalist background so that the focus is on your children’s smiles.
You’ll receive five high-resolution portraits as digital files which you can then print and share with friends and family, and which are perfect for use as photo gifts and on personalised greetings cards this Christmas.
Plus, there’ll be the option after the shoot to upgrade and purchase Christmas cards should you wish.
I also offer a range of photo products you can choose from and order. I’ve planned the mini sessions for November so that there will still be time for you to receive your purchases before Christmas.
The mini sessions will be held indoors at my photography studio here in Boston Spa in LS23, just a short drive from the centre of Leeds and within easy reach of both Harrogate and York.
For 2024 I am running Christmas photoshoot on Saturday 25th November and Sunday 26th November. There are multiple timeslots available but act fast to secure the one that suits you best!
These sessions are suitable for all families in and around Leeds, Harrogate and York, and anyone in Yorkshire (or beyond) who would like to choose me as their family photographer. Take a look at my portfolio and blog, and you’ll see that I’m very experienced at photographing people of all ages.
Whether your family is made up of young pre-school-age children, tweens, teens or grown-up kids, I’d love to see you in my studio soon.
If you have a larger family group, or would like to get grandparents involved, please get in touch with me before booking as an outdoor family portrait session or a full studio session may be more suitable for you.

Once you’ve booked your festive family portrait session with me, the next thing you’ll need to consider are the outfits.
You may not realise how important it is to consider your Christmas family photo outfits in advance but, believe me, it really does make a difference and is well worth spending the time thinking about.
You don’t need to buy anything new for the shoot necessarily, or to have clothes that match each other exactly. I do suggest though that you aim to coordinate with each other and have a common colour in all your clothing (keep reading for my tips on colours).
When it comes to clothing, I always advise wearing items that reflect your usual style and that are comfortable. Don’t feel the need to ’dress up’ necessarily – comfy casuals can look great but do come in your more formal clothing if you’d prefer.
Boys and men look great in a classic polo shirt or T-shirt and jeans/trousers. Girls and women often choose to wear a smart, classic top with a skirt, trousers or jeans, or a favourite dress.

Ideally, you’d pick clothing that would work well with the colours of my Christmas-themed set.
My Christmas backdrop is white and will feature neutral-coloured props and accessories, so I would recommend that you opt for clothes that are either white or pale neutral colours to tone in well. However, a splash of Christmas colour looks good too - don’t be afraid to be bold and choose bright reds and greens.
Avoid big logos, and I do recommend keeping patterns to a minimum. Having said that, a classic tartan can look great in festive photos, and young children look adorable in dresses, skirts and shirts with a tartan pattern.
Chunky knitted jumpers, and anything textured, work really well on camera, so I recommend you opt for those if you have something along those lines. These two boys looked great in their Next jumpers!
Children are very welcome to come with their festive pyjamas. You may even have the same set for the whole family. Matching Christmas pyjamas is a trend that seems to get more popular each year!
Should you need any more tips and guidance on what to wear, feel free to drop me an email or give me a call.
I’m also happy to review photos of the clothes you’re thinking of wearing and can give personalised advice on how to make your outfit ideas coordinate well together.
I’m really excited about these new Christmas family photoshoots and hope that you’ll jump at this new opportunity to have some professional family photos taken by me.
