Studio Portrait Photographer of the Year, British Institute of Professional Photography - Yorkshire Region -
As well as offering professional maternity, baby and family photography services, did you know that I run beginners photography workshops here in Yorkshire?
Well, I do!
So, if you’ve got a fancy DSLR camera lurking in your cupboard somewhere gathering dust - one that you haven’t learnt how to use properly yet - then I can help!
My beginners photography workshops could be just what you need to take you from total beginner to taking the photos you've always dreamed of.
If you’re someone who has an interest in photography, and a DSLR camera that you’d love to know how to use to its full potential, then why not book a place on one of my upcoming workshops?
I can help you to kick-start your photography knowledge, answer all your questions about how to use the features of your camera, and empower you to take more photos.
Held at my home here in Boston Spa (in between Leeds, York and Harrogate, in the heart of Yorkshire), these informal, relaxed photography workshops will teach you how to start getting the most out of your camera, whether you have a Nikon, a Canon or any other make of DSLR.
In the afternoon, if the weather is good, we can make use of my lovely garden for the practical element of the workshop.
My workshops are perfect for anyone who has an interest in photography and who wants to learn how to use the features of their DSLR camera to take better photos.
Aimed at beginners, they’re for anyone who considers themself a photography novice and who has no idea where to start. They are also suitable for those with some photography knowledge but who are still lacking confidence in using their ‘big’ camera.
They are not for experienced photographers.
We’ll cover the basics of camera controls, how to get your DSLR off auto and I'll help you to master the manual modes so that you can take creative images. It’ll be a mixture of theory and hands-on practical exercises to get you used to the control of your camera.
I’ll share my best beginner photography tips (without any complicated or overwhelming jargon, and without expectation of any prior photography knowledge), and you’ll take part in informal group discussions about composition and lighting.
Plus, you’ll get personalised support with your camera and you can ask all the questions you have about how to improve your photos.
The knowledge you'll gain will be applicable to any type of photography, whether you're interested in portraiture, landscapes or wildlife photography.
Yes, by the end of the photo workshop you’ll feel a lot more confident about switching off ‘auto’ mode and will have put your new-found knowledge into practice.
You’ll have spent the day with me getting familiar with what each manual mode means, and how they can be used to control the settings of your camera.
By the end of our time together, you will know how to take beautiful portraits, which setting to use if you’re taking photos of fast-moving objects (such as children!), and how to tackle low light situations. As a result, you will learn how to take better photos.
You’ll spend the day with me (9.30 am – 2.30 pm), at my home in Boston Spa.
The beginners photography course includes a morning of learning the basics, followed by a light lunch, and then a practical application of what you have learnt in the afternoon.
In 2022, these popular photography workshops will run every other month (subject to a minimum of 3 participants), so there’s sure to be a date that suits you. Limited places are available on each though, so I recommend securing your place early to avoid disappointment.
Discover the dates that I’ll be running the workshops here.
Each place costs just £110 for the 5-hour photography workshop. A delicious lunch is included too!
The group size will be no larger than 4 people.
I’ve testimonials from previous students which give you a flavour of how you can benefit, including these:
"I’d had a digital camera for a while but been using it on auto! We learned all the functions , what the camera could do and loads of prop tips on how to get the best out of the camera. We were encouraged to ask questions (which is perfect for me!). Andrea is really knowledgeable and helpful - I’d definitely recommend this course!" - Tessa
"I attended one of Andreas DSLR beginners workshops - it was a fantastic day. My DSLR had spent many years in the cupboard collecting dust as we had just got used to taking photos with our phones. Seeing Andrea's workshop advertised, it gave me the motivation to bring the DSLR out of hibernation and actually learn how to use it properly and not just use the auto function. Andrea was so knowledgeable and patient. After a morning of theory, in the afternoon we were able to put what we had learned into practice with a few tricks of the trade from Andrea. The DSLR is now never far away and I am enjoying taking photos so much more. A wonderful day - thank you so much Andrea!" - Alison
