I love a bit of variety to my work, and so when I was asked to photograph Heather’s Ball in Leeds a few weeks ago, how could I refuse? Great excuse to dig out the glad rags too!
Heather Clark was a friend and a colleague from my Yorkshire Television days, who was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and sadly died in June this year. A brilliant woman, with an amazing attitude, despite the hardships life had thrown at her, and an utterly wicked sense of humour.
Born without limbs due to thalidomide-related complications, she led the kind of life that makes you wonder what on earth you’ve been doing with your time. She worked for 25 years as a researcher and producer for Yorkshire Television, competed at national and international level at carriage driving, and organised this charity ball herself before she passed away.
The evening was a wonderful, warm and lively celebration of Heather’s life and achievements amongst her closest family and friends - never has an auction been so enthusiastically supported, or a dance floor so packed. I think Heather would have been chuffed.
The event raised an incredible £20,000 for the charity Ovacome, which raises awareness of and supports those suffering from ovarian cancer.
